Willie Gene Axel was born December 1, 1942 in Altair, Texas. He was the second oldest child to John L. and Emma Lee Axel.
Willie graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in San Antonio, Texas. He honorably served in the United States Air Force until January 1966.
Willie later moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he met Rudine Lampkin. They were joined in holy matrimony on February 16, 1968. From this union a daughter, Sharese Axel was born.
Willie accepted Christ in his life at an early age and later became a member at New Birth Baptist Church.
Willie was employed by General Motors (Hydramatics Willow Run Plant), where he worked and retired after twenty-five plus years.
On June 20, 2007, Willie was united in marriage to Crystal Cofield.
Willie enjoyed travelling and most of all listening to music, especially jazz. He loved helping others and was like a father figure and a great friend to many.
Willie went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2018. His parents John L. and Emma Lee Axel and two brothers, Thomas and Leo Axel preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his loving memory; his daughter, Sharese Axel of Inkster, MI; grandson; DeVante' Schofield; four sisters, Luretta Wilson (Rufus) of Poteet, TX, Shirley Axel of Houston, TX, Kathy Axel-Walker (Johnnie) of San Antonio, TX, and Parris Deason (Jerome) of Houston, TX; one brother; Richard Ben Axel (Helen) of San Antonio, TX; four stepchildren, Shahidah Muhammad, Edwyn Lampkin, Saundra Denman, and Brandon Kelly; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
