Deacon Wesley Lawrence Jr. was born on June8, 1931, to the union of Wesley and Nannie Lawerence in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was educated in the Hamilton County School District until the age of 16 years old. Upon his mother's death, he moved to Detroit and graduated from Central High School. In 1950, Wesley enlisted in the United States Army where he served for three years at Fort Jackson in South Carolina; he was an Airborne Ranger until his honorable discharged in 1953.
Wesley was married to Mary Powell in 1952 and to this union, two children were born. In 1958, he married Lela Lee (she preceded him in death). To this union, 10 children were born.
In 1962, Wesley was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at Bethlehem Temple under the late Bishop Wilson Roberts of Inkster, Michigan. From 1982 to 2003, Wesley served under the leadership of the late Bishop Willie C. Mason at Zion Apostolic Church in Ferndale, Michigan. From 2003 to the time of Elder Frank Cole's passing, he served under his leadership at Holy Church of Christ in Inkster, Michigan. Wesley was an outstanding Sunday School teacher who taught the young men at the church. He was appointed Deacon and Superintendent of the Sunday School Department.
Wesley was dedicated to living a holy life. He believed in keeping his word and being honest. Besides his love of God, he loved traveling with his family. During his life they traveled throughout the United States and Canada.
Deacon Wesley Lawrence made his transition from his earthly home on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory, nine sons; James, Kenny, Lonnie, Raphael, Doran (Janet), Aaron (Lynn), Steven (Brenda), Kevin (Angeline), Wesley (Ayana), three daughters; Delores, Rhonda (earl) Arrington, Leah (Bernard) McCoy, one guardianship, Yolanda, 49 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, and friends.
Deacon Wesley Lawrence Jr. was a "great man". God touched him and he touched the lives of others. A reward awaits him-----"Well done my good abd faithful servant!"
