Ms. Vastie Griffin

July 27, 1956 ~ July 10, 2023 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Obituary

Vastie Norita Griffin, known to all who loved her as 'Vas, Vassie, Sugar or Sugar Bear" was born on July 27, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan to the union of Mamie and Lewis Griffin. Vastie embraced her faith and was baptized as a child, but again on 11/15/2009 at New Birth Baptist Church.

She received her education in the Sikeston Public Schools system, graduating from Sikeston High School in 1973.

Vastie worked in various fields of work, but her most passionate career choice involved caring for others with special interest in caring for children. She enjoyed her role of being a full-time mom to her children and any child that crossed her path. Her sons would tell you they had a "REAL MOM" that loved mothering. Her favorite saying would be telling the girls "Bad gurl" leaving the l out of the word girl. "Baby Nawl, baby yea, don't you do that, and girl stop."

Vastie was a very gifted cook. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, card games, family functions, hanging with friends and going to the casino aka the 'the big house." She lived her best life. She loved getting new hair styles and her nails stayed done. Jewelry and Diamonds were her best friends. Everyone who knew her would say she was the "Life of the Party" and was going to tell it like it was.

She leaves behind a legacy cherished by many: her loving sons: Derrick (Latisha) Griffin and Dail (Lenner) Griffin. Vastie's mother, father, five brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. She is also survived by one brother Eddie Miles and four sisters, Sadie Connor, Sharon Stegall (Terry), Lorine Woodard (Willie), and Lolita Ingram. "Rene" and Vastie were not only sisters, but besties in this life and beyond. In addition, she leaves behind a special brother-in-law Mark Cornelius Sr. and a special sister-friend Chavonda Stewart. Five grandchildren: Darrius, Devon, Dejuan, Lydia, and Aquila. Three great-grandchildren, a number of bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Countless nieces, nephews, bonus children, cousins, and friends mourn the tremendous loss of their beloved "Vassie."
