Roberta Belle Burgines was born January 12, 1928 in Detroit Michigan to her loving parents Fred and Jennie Ambrose. She was the 7th of 11 children born to this union.
Being grounded and deeply rooted in the church Roberta accepted Christ at an early age at Monumental Baptist Church. Jiles Burgines III, where she was president of the usher and mother's boards, Sunday school teacher and she also worked in the church daycare. Years later she joined Unity Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother-in-law the late Rev. Dr. Valmon D. Stotts. Roberta was a faithful member serving on Usher board #1, The Pastors aid and Alter Circle.

She was affectionately referred to as Mama Burgines by many, due to her motherly nature. To know her was to love her, she touched the lives of many.
