Obituary

The Journey of Olanda DuVall Corbin

I was born on April 28, 1958 to the late Donald Sr. and Doris Corbin in River Rouge, Michigan. I was the sixth of nine children born to this union.

I attended the River Rouge Public School System and later received my GED. I have had several different jobs, but my most enjoyable was with my brother Keith Coney remodeling homes. We would always kick up a song or wo as we worked.

I confessed Christ at an early age under the leadership of my uncle Robert Walker, before becoming a lifelong member of St. John AME Church and singing in the choir. On October 25, 1986, I married the love of my life Janice Shadd. To this union we had three beautiful children. My beautiful daughter Alcoya and my two handsome sons Orlando Jr. and Kelief.

During my life I loved to have fun. I really enjoyed playing chess and dominoes with my friend Dawson. Most of all, I loved to sing praises to God. My favorite song was, you guessed it, "Change is Going to Come." I never met a stranger. I could strike up a conversation with anyone, talk mess and be the life of the party.

I joined the brotherhood of the Israel Lodge under Joshua Grand Council which was a great honor of mine.

Well, my journey has come to an end and yes, I answered God's call on July 31, 2023.

I leave to cherish my memories; my ride or die wife Janice, children; Alcoya Gillespie (Antonio), Orlando (Michelle), and Kalief (Chelsea); grandchildren; Taramya (Eddie), Lucas, Sara, Deven, great-granddaughter Imani; siblings Darnetta Corbin Leak, Donald Corbin Jr., and Keith Coney; sister-in-law Trudy Jefferson (joe), Lynda, Wilma, and Sherry; brother-in-law Willie Shadd (Edna) and Warren Shadd (Linda); special nephew Amadou and Malik Sanghott; special friends William Richardson, Pierre Johnson and Larry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
