Louie Burney Obituary

Louie Odell Burney was born on September 16, 1940 in Brundidge, Alabama to Lourico and Sammie L. Burney. Louie was the third of five siblings and was affectionately called Odell or Hawk.

Odell moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, there he met and married Shirley Conway. To this union, one daughter Elanor was born.

Family meant everything to Odell, and he loved spending quality time with them. Odell shared a memorable bond with his siblings, nieces and nephews. He spent quality time with his grandson Noah during the summer of 2018.

Odell had a special relationship with Molly Childrey for 45 years. Then enjoyed going out to eat and games of chance at Motor City Casino.

Odell had a fascinating memory and would often recall family history at a moment's notice.

Odell loved all sports as well as fishing. He would often go tp games or watch games on TV. You could call him any time of the night and get updates on any game.

At an early age, Odell moved to Ft. Lauderdale Florida and became ta "Master Chef" working at several prominent restaurants. After moving to Michigan, Odell was a chef at several restaurants in Detroit-Metropolitan area. Odell was a Gardener with a green thumb. He would use the bounty from his garden to prepare meals and share with his family and neighbors. He was proud of meals he prepared and would sometimes say "man you need to taste this Lasagna I made."

People knew Odell because of his big heart, love sports, funny stories and great cooking. Odell had a love of gospel music, his favorite singer being James Cleveland. He would often attend gospel concerts.

Odell was called home by the Lord on February 12, 2019 surrounded by family.

Odell was preceded in death by his parents Lourico and Sammie L. Burney, Shirley Conway and daughter Elanor Jackson.

Odell leaves to cherish his memory: his partner Molly Childrey, grandson Noah Jackson, sister Mattie (Alto) Baker, brothers: Lamar (Maggie) Burney of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Ed Burney, Harry (Carla) Burney many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
