Joseph Adkins Obituary

Joseph was born November 6, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan to his parents, Joseph Chandler Adkins Sr. and Geraldine Ritchie Adkins. He was the fifth child of ten children. He was preceded in death by both parents; a brother Leroy Adkins; and sisters Marion Fielder (Larry), Edna Burton, Bessie Adkins, and Joann Adkins. He attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated in 1966 from Southwestern High.

In 1992 while working at the United States Postal Service, he noticed an attractive Christian young lady named Jean who studied her Bible when on break and at lunch time. The Lord led him to approach her. She told him she was saved and not interested. However, he told her he wanted what she had, a life in Christ! He persisted for several months and eventually convinced her to marry him. They were married on June 20, 1992. This started his journey to living a more peaceful and content life in Christ in the Word with his wife Jean who loved him dearly. They were happily married for 32 years. Joseph received the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues on April 4, 1994. He was endowed with power from on high for two days!

Because of his hard work and dedication, he held several Managerial Positions and retired in 2004. Joseph loved ALL sports, but his focus was serving as a Deacon at Greater Grace Temple Church of Taylor, Michigan under the leadership of Bishop Gary Harper, whom he loved tremendously. He loved his church family! He served alongside his wife learning and teaching the Word. He was ordained as a Deacon on December 2, 2001. He went on to receive his “International Deacon Accelerated Certification” from Aenon Bible College & The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Inc. on August 14, 2019. He was fully committed to the office of Deacon since December 2, 2021.

Joseph departed this life on January 28, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Jean; his brother Ronald Adkins (Diane); sisters Brenda Crawford (Nathan), Ruth Round, and Oneida Adkins; one daughter Samone Malbrough (Phillip); two grandsons O’Ryan and O’ Mari; two sons Lamont and Nathaniel; one sister-in-law Joyce Harris and son Lamar; one aunt Oneida Adkins; God-daughter Sophia; God-granddaughter Cadet Senior Airman Nialah Crosby, and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and people who loved him. He was a spiritual father to many children who he and wife helped raise who will also carry on his legacy!
