Izell Watkins Obituary

Izell Watkins was born January 29th, 1973 in California to Izell Swinney and Karen Watkins. Izell was the eldest of five siblings, Ryshonda "Nett" Jackson (Kendrick), Rico Swinney (Karen), Tadariel Harvey (Christina), Kevin "Ceron" Swinney and Asia Swinney. Izell was raised in the heart of Romulus, Michigan and graduated from Romulus Senior High School in 1991. He accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Wayne, Michigan.

Izell excelled in high school in track holding the record for the long jump and spent 2 years at Michigan Christian College representing his school in basketball. Izell spent 13 years at American Axel, one of the largest tier one suppliers to the big three automotive companies, as a line supervisor. He was a selfless man, who would give his last to anyone in need. Izell was also respected in his community for the wisdom and selflessness he exhibited.

On the morning of September 3rd, 2023, Izell was called home to glory. In his final moments, Izell was surrounded by loved ones. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Karen Watkins and Izell Swinney, his grandmother Geraldine Watkins and grandfather James Watkins.

Izell Watkins loved his children more than life itself and was proud of all of their accomplishments, big or small. Izell was the best grandfather, known affectionately as "paw paw" by his 3 beautiful grandchildren, Melody Williams, King Williams, and Lyric Williams. Izell loved being a grandparent and was adored by his grandbabies. Izell loved his family and would do anything to protect them. Although being a father of 2, he played the father-figure role to many people in his family. He loved hard and taught many lessons that will be stapled into the ones he poured into.

To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. What we know to be true is that Izell left his mark on those who were fortunate enough to experience him in the physical world, His presence will be missed, but the memories he left us with will bot be soon forgotten. Izell leaves behind: his step-mother, Lena Swinney, his children, Kayla Williams (Kendall) Williams, Izell Watkins II, his grandchildren, Melody, King, & Lyric Williams, his siblings: Ryshonda "Nett" Jackson (Kendrick), Rico Swinney (Karen), Tadariel Harvey (Christina), Kevin Swinney, Asia Swinney, God-sons; Jevon Carlock and Da'mon Davis II, sister-cousins, Vita Wolfe (Terrence) & Les'cia Watkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
