Henry Nolen Obituary

Henry B. Nolen was born in Rosston, Arkansas on May 10th 1937 to the union of Sam and Ada Nolen.  He was the oldest of four children.

Henry moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan with his parents where he attended elementary school. The family later moved to Romulus, where he graduated from high school as a stand-out member of the track and cross-country teams.  Shortly after graduation, he joined the army where he spent three years.  After an honorable discharge, Henry joined Ford Motor Company and retired after 36 years as a supervisor. While working full-time, he graduated from Eastern Michigan University with his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Henry enjoyed boating, corvettes, and participating in community organizations.  He was the president of the Lions Club, and a member of Kiwanis Club.

Henry was mild mannered, dependable, caring, and thoughtful.  He was married to Opal Faye McBride and had two children, Rhonda and Byron. Henry loved family and would not miss a family event. He will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather.  He relished the time he had with his grandson, Nicholas and was so proud of him.  He emphasized the value of work and education.  In his quiet way, he always gave what he could to Byron, Rhonda, Nicholas, Jaiden, and other family members.  He also enjoyed trips to the casino with his companion, Lillian and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charles, sister Opal, and niece Monica.  He leaves to cherish his memory his children Rhonda and Byron (Jennifer), grandson Nicholas, sister Jennette, sister-in-law Betty, nephew Charles Kenyon (Jennifer), grand-nephews Jaiden and Charles Malik, and companion Lillian Jones as well as many other family and friends.

Henry made his peaceful transition on February 5, 2024.
