George Morehead Obituary

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" St. George Morehead was born on February 23, 1923 in Lake City, Florida to the late St. Clair and Ophelia Morehead. He was the middle sibling of three. His older brother James Morehead and younger sister, Florida Morehead Saulsby preceded him in death.

Growing up in the South, he attended school in the Florida School System. George was very stubborn and hot-tempered, which led to him moving to Michigan. It would be here where he met his future wife, Doris King. George and Doris were married in September 1953, and to this union two daughters were born: Bridgett and Terri. They enjoyed over 40 years of happiness with each other, their children, and their grandchildren.

George began his career in the automotive industry where he worked at Ford Motor Company. After working there for several years, he left and began a career as a cab driver He would eventually work for three companies, Black & White Cab Co, Inkster Superior Cab Co. (owned by his father-in law), and Detroit Metro Airport, from which he retired.
George loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed watching his sports and cooking, especially BBQ. For those who may have known: Tat Spencer" who was the barbeque King of Inkster. George thought he was "Tat #2.

He was a devoted member of Smith Chapel AME Church where he served on the Men's Usher Board. On May 20, 2017 at Beaumont Hospital in Wayne, MI, he gave up the fight and surrendered his life to Christ.

He leaves to rejoice in his memory one son: Eartha Faust (Cassandra) of Maricopa, Arizona; two daughters; Bridgett Morehead of Southfield, MI and Terri Sledge (Kenny) of Inkster, MI; six grandkids: Kenneth Sledge, Cortney Sledge and Lorraine Robb of Inkster, Mi, Tiffany Hughes of Southfield, Kareem (Speedy) and Hakeem Muhammad of California; five nephews: Joseph Sausby (Janice) of Orando, Fl, Wayne Morehead (Cassandra) of Lawrenceville, GA, Wallace King II of Sugarland, TX, Daryl Brian of St. Louis, MO, Keith Alan (Christy) of Marietta GA; Three nieces: Mildred Saulsby-Brawley (Ronald) and Angela Saulsby Sharpe (Sylvester) of Philadelphia, PA, and D' Sena Morehead of Atlanta Ga; and a host of other relatives and friends.
