Fannie Johnson Obituary

Fannie Johnson, born on July 25, 1931 in Macon, Mississippi, peacefully departed this world on February 15, 2024. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Fannie's life was a testament to love, faith, and nurturing. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Percy Roby, her siblings Willie D. Roby, Mary Pearl Smith, and Leona Tripp, and her husbands, James Sanders and Kenneth Johnson.

Fannie's green thumb and culinary skills were unmatched; she found great joy in gardening and crafting the most scrumptious buttermilk pies. Her magnolia tree in her Michigan garden was a reflection of her love for nature and her Mississippi roots. Fannie's passion for gardening extended beyond her own backyard as she started a community garden, nurturing not only plants but a sense of togetherness.

A woman of deep faith, Fannie joined Amity Baptist Church in 1965, where she remained an active and dedicated member throughout her life. Her commitment to the church was everlasting; she served the church in many roles. Her favorite role was the director of the youth choir, sharing the joy of music and worship to the younger generation. Due to her contributions, she was recognized as the 2009 Amity Baptist Church Woman of the Year. The prestigious honor reflected her unwavering dedication to Christianity and her exceptional contributions to the church community.

In her personal life, Fannie's hard-working spirit shone through her work at the University of Michigan Hospital, Keane Manufacturing, and Detroit Diesel. Her contributions and efforts left a lasting mark on each workplace, reflecting her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Fannie also served as the Vice President of the Westwood Board of Education, leaving an enduring legacy in the field of education. Her leadership in this role reflected her commitment to nurturing young minds and ensuring educational excellence.

Beyond her professional and church endeavors, Fannie had a deep passion for helping others. Her compassionate spirit touched the lives of those in her community, and her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Fannie leaves behinds a legacy of family, having raised three loving children: Dr. Jimmie Sanders, Johnny, and Tonuia Sanders. Her family expanded with the joy of five grandchildren: Jimmie Jr., Chare', Kai, Kendra, and LaSean, and five great-grandchildren, and a loving nephew Rev. Aaron Roby, each testament to her warmth and affection.

She will forever be in our hearts. Let us celebrate a life richly lived, filled with love, faith, and a legacy of nurturing both in her family, community, and helping others. She leaves us with her favorite Bible Verse Psalms 23:1 "The Lord is my Shepard; I shall not want." With heartfelt condolences.
