In memory of Derrick Shawn Wade, born on December 27, 1968 and peacefully departed on October 13, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved son of the late Mary Wade and Leonard Wade Sr. Derrick graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1987. In April 1989, he began his 34 years career at Ford Motor Company, where he demonstrated exceptional commitment and professionalism.
Derrick was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of 5. Through all his health struggles he kept a positive outlook and never complained. His strength was a true inspiration to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Derrick's passion for all things motorized, from motorcycles to sports cars, mainly fox bodies, was evident throughout his life. His love for BMX bikes as a child evolved into a talent for building custom mini bikes, earning him several prestigious awards. He was a regular presence at the Autorama every year, where he could be found indulging in his enthusiasm for automotive craftsmanship.
Derrick was a devoted father to his children, Azarye and Aja. His love and care for them was unwavering. He also shared a very special bond with his late grandmother/aunt, Bernice Woodson.
He is survived by his son, Azarye Wade, Daughter, Aja Wade; father, Leonard Wade Sr. (Joyce), brother; Leonard "Bias" Wade Jr. (Derica); sister Linda Crter-Brooks (Mel); brother Demetrius Wade, aunt: Linda Carter; uncles: Herman Carter Sr and Thomas Carter; aunt/cousin: Earnestine Carter, Uncle/Cousin Warren Carter, sister/cousin: Ayisia Blair (Richard); brother/cousin: Tarik Haygood (Kimberly); and a host of extended family members and close friends who will forever cherish the memory of a man known for his passion, creativity, and warm-hearted spirit.
