Byron Thomas, a beacon of generosity in his community and beloved husband, father and grandfather, was born September 10,1961, to Charlie Frank Thomas and Wynoia Jones in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the University of Michigan Hospital.
Byron graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in Wayne, Michigan in 1980, and matriculated through Washtenaw Community College with an Associate's Degree.
His passion for sports, ignited during his high school years, remained a steadfast companion throughout his life, as he enthusiastically engaged in racquetball, football, and basketball, even coaching youth basketball.
Byron accepted Christ at an early age, walking to Sunday School faithfully at Missionary Baptist in Inkster, Michigan with his siblings.
He often spoke fondly of friend and mentor Reverend Nathaniel Bishop, who as a young adult helped Byron begin to navigate a purposeful relationship with Christ. Byron was a longtime member of Middlebelt Baptist Church and throughout his years of dedicated service, selflessly served as a servant, usher, choir member, and elementary age teacher.
Joined in holy matrimony with his beloved wife Gail for 29 years, Byron was the heart and soul of his family. Together they welcomed daughter Madisen, joining Tabitha, LaTia, and Sterling to foster a bond that would endure a lifetime of cherished memories.
Byron was employed with Ford for thirty years, where he built lifelong friendships until his retirement in March 2018.
Byron remained steadfast in his commitment to serving as a mentor to young men and boys. Despite facing health challenges, he opened his heart and home to a young man (Isiah) from the church community during a time of need, proving his unwavering dedication to supporting and uplifting others.
Byron's memory lives on in the hearts of his cherished family: loving wife Gail, children Tabitha, LaTia, Sterling and Madisen, grandchildren Mya, Caden, Brooklynn, Zoe, Zaya, Jackson, Conner, and Harper, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of family members. Byron is also survived by siblings Priscilla Marbury (Thirkield), Melody Thomas, Charlie Thomas (Patricia), Aaron Jones (Janette), and preceded by Winona Ponder.
