Warnedie Cross Obituary

Warnedie "Juanita" Johnson Cross was born to the union of Wardell and Johnson (Newell) on January 27, 1947 in Jackson, Mississippi. Juanita was a graduate of Wayne County Community College where she received her Associate's Degree in Urban Elementary Teaching in 1996. She attended Ecumenical Theological Seminary and was an ordained Evangelist and Missionary. She served as an Associate Minister at People's Community Church in Westland, where she became the first female Evangelist in 2002.

Juanita was a dedicated member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. with her Amicae family. She was a willingness volunteer in the community outside of her sorority and was awarded "Resident Volunteer of the Year" through her Senior Citizen Building, where she established a prayer room and served as Chaplin. She also volunteered her time by facilitating weekly shopping trips with the residents and other monthly outings. She regularly visited local hospitals to spend time with patients, and Juanita was the ultimate planner of many of her family gatherings.

Juanita entered fully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on March 21, 2020 after her battle with cancer. She is survived by three children, Juanita Johnson, Tommy Cross, and Tyrone Johnson (Felicia); six grandchildren; four sisters, Roberta, Shirley, Pearlene, and Diane; four brothers, Wardell Jr., Gregory, Jimmy, and Howard Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews who were all her favorites, as well as countless numbers of friends she regarded as family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Otha Mae and her grandson, Ja'Carr Worthey.
