Ruby Combs Obituary

Evangelist Ruby Lee Combs, was born on April 27,1938, to James Henry and Jewell Newson, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Somewhere in 1944, the family moved to Inkster, Michigan, James Henry and Jewell loved their children. He was a brick mason contractor, who built new construction houses and taught his children to be entrepreneurs and to love Christ.

Ruby has always been an entrepreneur. In 1988,she graduated from Wayne State University where she received a degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught school at St. Ambrose Catholic School on Alter Road in Detroit, Michigan. She also assisted her sister, Bishop Shirley Douglas Little, in setting up several A.F.C. homes which housed State Wards for Wayne County Probate Court. Ruby assisted in the formation of family physical therapy clinics which helped to assist seniors in need of physical therapy services. She has also been an assistant to her daughter, Valerie Rucker, in her in-home accommodations for Valerie's eight wonderful children, who were dear to her heart. She helped with love, direction and care of her eight children and two great grandchildren.

Evangelist Combs was the author of "God's Prescription for Divine Health". This book was edited by Mrs. Wanda J. Burnside, Minister Mary Edwards was editor and book coach.

She was a licensed Evangelist in the Church of God In Christ, a Prayer Warrior, intercessor, soul winner and a Saint of God.

In 2000, she graduated from Mother Geraldine Miller Wright's Institute for Women in Ministry, located in Warren, Michigan. She also received ten certificated.

She proudly tells the soy of being a member of Pentecostal Temple C.O.G.I.C. From a very young age along with her parents and siblings. "Bishop Isaac King, with his impeccable guidance character has been a mainstay for our family". From 2014 thru 2017, Evangelist Combs Pulpit Support Staff for Bishop Shirley Douglas Little and Pastor Krafus Walker at Abyssinia Church of God In Christ in Beverly Hills Michigan.


Ruby was preceded in death by her son, Quatilious Combs; parents, James Henry and Jewell Newson and two sisters, Margaret Lillie Maude Johnson and Kwaketta London Brewer.


She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Valerie Rucker; grandchildren, Chavis Rucker, Ayden Rucker, Ernest Rucker, Savannah Rucker, Detron Rucker, Joseph Sinkford, Arvetta Sinkford and Dontayia Sinkford brother, Ralph Henry Newsome; sister Bishop Shirley Douglas Little and Ella Ruth Teasley; sister-in-law, Beverly Newson; brother-in-law, Paris Little; nieces and nephews Malik Fuqua (Sakiko), Cory Teasley (Camelia), Shyrletta Johnson, Watsene Johnson, Kellena Johnson, Nikki Newson, Jamal Newson, Andrika Brewer, Kanisha Brewer and Larry Brewer along with a host of church members and friends.

Evangelist Combs will be loved and missed by many friends and most of all, the Saints of the Church of God In Christ.
