Roberta Burgines Obituary

Roberta Belle Burgines was born January 12, 1928 in Detroit Michigan to her loving parents Fred and Jennie Ambrose. She was the 7th of 11 children born to this union.
Being grounded and deeply rooted in the church Roberta accepted Christ at an early age at Monumental Baptist Church. Roberta continued to nurture her relationship with Christ and was an active member of Christian Victory Center under the leadership of her beloved son Rev. Jiles Burgines III, where she was president of the usher and mother's boards, Sunday school teacher and she also worked in the church daycare. Years later she joined Unity Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother-in-law the late Rev. Dr. Valmon D. Stotts. Roberta was a faithful member serving on Usher board #1, The Pastors aid and Alter Circle.
Roberta was educated in the Detroit public school systems. Roberta married the love of her life Jiles Burgines Jr. on April 22, 1950 and together they were blessed with 6 children: Doris, Geraldine, Gwendolyn, Beverly, Linda, and Jiles III.
Roberta was both dedicated and a hard worker she retired from Fisher body plant and St. Vincent De Paul. Roberta was a loving and giving person to everyone she met. She was affectionately referred to as Mama Burgines by many, due to her motherly nature. To know her was to love her, she touched the lives of many.
Roberta's earthly assignment was complete, and she made her transition peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father at the age of 94 on Monday November 21, 2022, at 11:15am at Beaumont Hospital with her loving daughter Lola by her side. She is now reunited in heaven with her parents; Fred and Jennie. Siblings; Freddie Mae, Samuel, Thomas Paul, Elizabeth, James, Mary, Ruth, Ruby and her twin Robert. Husband Jiles Jr., and daughters Beverly, Linda, Gwendolyn, and Dorris.
Her favorite scripture was the 91st Psalm and her sacred songs she held dear to heart were, "I won't complain", "My hope is built on nothing less", and "My soul is anchored" just to name a few.
Roberta leaves to celebrate her life and continue her legacy: her loving son Pastor Jiles (Lola) Burgines III, Daughter Geraldine Moore, Sister Ethel Stotts, 11 Grandchildren Alisa Scott, Shelia (Thomas) May, Monique Holiday, Earl (Trinette) Moore, Jacquline (Grover) Cross, Earl (Karen) Jones Jr., LaToya (Greg) Irvin, Lamar Dennis Jr., Eric (LaShon) Jones Sr., LaTrell Burgines, and Tiffany Burgines. 20 Great- Grandchildren, 5 Great, Great - Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Especially her best friends as she affectionally referred to as the Golden Girls Mrs. Ida Henderson, Mrs. Maple Teasley, Mrs. Cheryl Thomas, Mrs. Yolanda Wright, Mrs. Frances Wallick, Mrs. Mary Carter, Mrs. Shirley Jenkins and Mrs. Patsy Chappy. She will be greatly missed by her Family and Friends, her Unity Baptist family as well as her Alabama church family at Greater 14th Street Missionary Baptist and other churches.
Roberta was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, mother of the church and a true friend that will be dearly missed but dearly remembered!
