Renee Witten Obituary

Renee Joyce Witten was born on December 7, 1949 to the union of the late Donald Sr., and Doris Corbin in Detroit, Michigan. She was the eldest of nine children, five of whom (Vanessa, Denise, Renellda, Roderick, and Thea) preceded her in death.

Renee accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior under the leadership of her uncle Robert Walker, before becoming a lifelong member of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church and served on the Stewardess and Usher Boards, and as a Youth Coordinator.

Renee was educated within the River Rouge Public School System and graduated in 1967. She later worked at Security Bank and Trust for twenty years prior to her employment with Nippon Express, from where she retired in 2014.

On July 12, 1968, Renee joined Gregory Witten in Holy Matrimony, and they welcomed four children, Gregory, Kenneth, Degaryen, and Margret. Renee was family oriented, so in addition to her children, she provided love and guidance for many of her nieces, nephews, and younger cousins. She also had a special bond with each of her grandchildren, known as "The Great Seven," and her great-grandchildren.

In 1979, Renee joined the Order of the Eastern Star. She extended her dedication to The Greater Rising Star Grand Chapter and held several positions including, Worthy Matron (St. Mary's #20), State Grand Deputy, Royal Matron, Turtle Club Member and Daughter of the Desert Member. She was also the Arts and Craft Coordinator, and rightfully so because she loved the crafts, particularly making jewelry. She often said that creating beautiful things helped her get through the rough patches in life. However, one would never know that Renee was having a rough time because even in her times of need, she always offered an encouraging word and her signature smile.

Renee had a festive, yet feisty personality and style. She lived life to the fullest and whatever she did, she went above and beyond the requirements. She loved to travel with her sister and bowl with her family and friends. In fact, she still remembered for having a custom gold and clear bowling ball with her name inside of it. She was original. She was meticulous. She was irreplaceable and will be truly missed.

Renee made her transition from Labor to Reward on May 7, 2018. She leaves to treasure her memories: three sons; Gregory (Sylvia), Kenneth and Degaryen; one daughter, Margret; nine grandchildren, Lapretia, Dekareya, Adereka, De'Garyia, Kyesha, Kyjuan, D'Angelo, Dewit, and Sterling Sr.; five great-grandsons, Dekareya Jr. ("GG"), Amir, Sterling Jr., Gavin, and Trevighun, one sister; Darnetta; three brothers, Donald Jr., Olanda (Janice) and Keith (Barbara); former husband and friend, Gregory; two special daughters, Quita and Tracey; four special friends, Tanya, Dedra, Denise and Terry; her St. John AME and Greater Rising Star Order of Eastern Star Families, and other relatives and friends.
