Ray Violet Lucas was born on October 11, 1935 to Tommy Sr., and Patsy Dupree in Pitt County, Falkland, North Carolina. She was the fifth born child born to this union.
She received her formal education at Farmville High School and then pursued Teacher's College in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Ray Violet also played basketball in high school as point guard of a championship team and in addition, throughout her college years in which she was very talented in the sport.
In 1955, she met John Wesley Lucas. Being friends first and then married, they had eight children together. Starting their family in Detroit, they later moved to Inkster, Michigan in 1966, and have lived in the same residence since that time. She was a true caregiver to her children, supportive wife, loving grandmother and great grandmother.
She leaves to cherish her memory; husband John Wesley Lucas; sister Ethel Blanche Forrest; children, Cheryl Colbert (Lawrence), Michael, John (Jane), Judy (Aaron Chaney), Vivian Greenway (David), Glenn, Wade, and Tonia; family member, Dalonda; grandchildren, Lawrence (Sarah), Lashaundra, Lakesia, Robert, Terrill (Patricia), Yvonne, Justin, Dustin, Ashton, Ian, Robert, Maia, Grant, Glenn Jr., Anesha, Shardae, Wade JR., Carrie, Dominic, LaChae and Raynita; loving great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
