Octavia Lawrence Obituary
Octavia Hamby Lawrence, entered Heaven's Gates on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the age of 92.
Octavia was born to Alfred and Eliza Allen Hamby on April 8, 1926 in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. She attended Rutherfordton Public Schools. Octavia loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age.
On January 31, 1944, Octavia Hamby and Cornelius Lawrence were united in Holy Matrimony in Rutherfordton. The relocated to Inkster, Michigan in 1953. Octavia was affectionately called "Tae", "Mama Tae" or "Aunt Tae". Her generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family and friends. Octavia was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She also owned a food service business located inside the Inkster Ice Arena. Octavia was an avid sports fan, her favorites being tennis, football and golf. Her favorite movie was "This Christmas" with Chris Brown, who in her opinion, could do no wrong. She loved reading her daily word, doing cross word puzzles, playing casino games on her tablet and lottery scratch off tickets. Octavia's infectious smile will always be remembered and she always ended her conversations with "Love You More".
Preceding her transition was her husband of sixty-four years, Cornelius; son, Cornelius, Jr.; daughter, Mary Eliza; three sisters, Roberta Lowrance, Johnnie Mae Miller and Alice Robinson; brother, William Hamby; granddaughter, Rene Lawrence and nephew, Charles Lowrance.
Left to cherish Octavia's memory: son, Ricky; daughter, Norma; grandchildren, Danny (Christi), Yolanda, Kevin, Eddie (Toya), Ricketa, Sharice, Juana (Cleveland) and Devin (Renay); thirty-one great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother Percy Hamby and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
