Marcus Mayfield Obituary

Marcus Donovan Mayfield was an Angel who entered this world on June 6, 1993 in Nashua, New Hampshire. He was born to the union of Dedra Mathews and Jonathan Mayfield and was the oldest son of Dedra and the only son of Jonathan's. Marcus' birth was so spectacular that Mildred and Jay found out that they were expecting a grandson, they drove all the way to Nausha, New Hampshire from Highland Park, Michigan to make sure Penny and Jono were taken care of for the arrival of their new grandbaby.

Marcus had two younger brothers, Raymond Allen and Jackson Mathews, whom he loved and cared for since their birth.

Marcus graduated from Woodhaven High School in the summer of 2012 were he received exceptional grades, raving reviews from students and faculty, and he never got into any trouble. He was still and is beloved by staff, faulty, and students in the Woodhaven School District where he attended.

Not long after graduation, Marcus met and fell in love with the mother of his child, Vanessa. To this union, his only child was born. Cicero Solom Mayfield. Marcus was a proud, devoted, and protective father who loved his son deeply.

Marcus accepted Christ into his life at an early age and attended Faith Temple Baptist Church in Inkster, Michigan. Marcus was a kind, gentle, sweet, loving, understanding, intelligent, and handsome young man who never made an enemy.

Marcus was employed at Detroit Thermal Systems for three years where he was loved, respected, and admired by his supervisors and colleagues.

Marcus was an artistic young man who was blessed with the ability to draw and create art in intricate detail, he wrote original poems, he listened to jazz music, he played the acoustic guitar and piano by ear and would often play with his father, whom he had a close relationship.

Marcus, you are my oldest son and you made raising children easy. You were due on June 1st, but you were 5 days late. I was in labor with you for 4 hours and 23 minutes. You weighed in at 7 pounds and 14 ounces. We bonded over breast-feeding and bedtime stories. You were an easy child. You didn't cry or complain. You were just my sweet, well-mannered, obedient, gentle, kind, loving intelligent, handsome, and talented son. I loved you so much. I did not know what God had blessed me with at the time because I was only 19 years old, but I knew that you had a good father and grandfather with a good heart and I wanted those traits and qualities to be passed down to my son. You helped me take care of Jackson and Ray-Ray with the same love as their own father. I have always loved you for that. You were the perfect big brother. You were the perfect cousin, nephew, grandson, employee, and friend. Not only did God answer my prayers, but he gave me a child that was so good, that the rest of us can only dream to touch as many people as this young King did in his short, yet blessed 25 years and 9 months on this earth.

Marcus, I hope and pray that I make you proud. You were too good for us. You were too good for this world. Marcus departed this world on Wednesday, March 6, 2019. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother, Dedra (Penny) Mathews and Brian Mazur, his devoted father, Jonathan Maurice Mayfield, his beautiful son Cicero Mayfield and Vanessa, his brothers,, Raymond Allen and Jackson Mathews, his grandparents, Mildred Mayfield-Evans and Elene (Jimmie) Carter, his aunt Trina (Josie/Clarence) Ross, his cousin Christian Martin, with whom he had a brotherhood, and Terrell Mayfield. Marcus also had a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and great uncles and especially friends, coworkers, and classmates who loved him dearly and will truly miss him.
