The Beginning: God created life for Leona Johnson on September 30, 1927, in Domino, Texas, born to Major and Lillie Webb. Leona was the third eldest of eight siblings. Childhood: Leona's life as a child in Texas was filled with days of learning valuable life lessons from her grandparents, Dennis and Frances Webb. She was always quiet but observant child which provided beneficial for her in life while studying and focusing on her lessons in school. She consistently had good grades throughout her school life. Higher Learning: After graduating in 1945 from Rosenwald High School, she studied nursing at Prairie View University and later at Philidelphia School of Practical Nursing where she took additional classes to specialize in the care of infants. Love Life: She was joined in holy matrimony on December 29, 1945 to Eugene Johnson in Texarkana, Arkansas and unto this union eight children were born. Work Life: Leona worked at Dearborn Heights Nursing Home and Venoy Nursing home before working as a nurse at Annapolis in the Neo Nato unit where she worked for 24 years before retiring. Home Life and Hobbies: Leona loved her family. She was the quintessential mother of care and nurturing. She volunteered her time and became the den mother for boy scouts. She baked cookies for bake sales for school related events for her children. She screamed in the stands at football and baseball games for her children who were involved in sports. She encouraged and always had a kind word to uplift your spirits. She instilled "God First" in her children and reminded them when she felt a reminder was appropriate. She cooked and baked delicious dishes. She nursed her sick children back to good health. She taught her children how to be independent citizens. She wiped noses, kissed boo boos, clothes her children and sometimes those who were not related to her. She loved gardening and planting beautiful flowers. She crocheted and knitted beautiful afghan blankets. She helped with big school projects. She loved her husband throughout their marriage in sickness and health. She loved listening to classical and gospel music. In her quite moments she loved to read and journal. She loved to watch classic movies, westerns, NBA basketball and later in life Family Feud with Steve Harvey. Leona loved family, immediate, extended and adopted but her love for God was the biggest love of all. Resting with God: We can all learn a few lessons from the life of Leona. Her kind, caring and easy-going spirit reminds us of the love of God within her. Her strength was enormous even near death. God made the call to bring her home on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, for the fight was over and her battle was won. She is nor resting in the arms of our Lord and Saviour. Her loved ones who preceded her in death are her mother, Lillie Webb; father, Major Traylor; husband, Eugene Johnson; brothers, James Traylor, Theodric Traylor, Willie Fedrick, Curtis Fedrick, George Fedrick; sisters; Juanita Reed, Frances Martin; grandchildren, David Tice, Rashawn Johnson; children Lynette Johnson, Shirley McMullen, Robert Johnson, Raymond Johnson and Lillie Spikes. Left to forever cherish her loving memories are her two daughters Cynthia Johnson and Regina Johnson and her son, Richard Johnson (Reginia), sister, Ruby Price; sister-in-law, Pauline Fedrick; 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leona will be missed tremendously and life as we know it will be altered but because of her presence, we are forever blessed to be part of her life. She has left a legacy of examples of how-to live-in love and truth. We forever honor you and will keep you forever in our hearts.
