September 7, 1936 - February 25, 2021
Helen Barbara Wilson was born in Evergreen, Louisiana on September 7, 1936. She was surrounded by a large nurturing family. Helen was the youngest child of Vernada (Mackey) and Aaron Compton. She was preceded in death by her parents and ten siblings. Leaving to cherish her memory are her loving children Acqunetta (Douglas) Likkel and Corey (Leslie) Wilson, grandchildren Corey Wilson Jr. and Caniya (Caleb) Sims, and great-grandson Kysen Sims; loving nieces Gloria (Abraham) Lucas, Rosaline Walton, Shelia Welford, Carmen Robinson, Carla Claiborne and nephew Joseph (Susan) Claiborne; loving step-family Judy Donnell, Choya Donnell, Earl Wilson Jr., Ruth Meeks, Connie Fredrick, Pamela Wilson and Rochinda Bryant; as well as a host of additional extended family and friends. As a young woman with her first child, she ventured out of her rural area, first residing in Beaumont, Texas and then Pittsburg, California where she graduated from Pittsburg Beauty College and enjoyed her work as a beautician. There she met Earl Howard Wilson, whom she married in 1964. Shortly after they married, the family relocated to Chicago, Illinois and two years later relocated to Inkster, Michigan. Helen then worked as a para-professional for Inkster Public Schools, gave birth to her second child and subsequently worked for Ford Motor Company at the Brownstown plant from which she retired. She enjoyed a faithful 43-year marriage until Earl’s passing. Throughout her busy life she maintained a welcoming home for family and friends. Helen loved the Lord and attended the Baptist church most of her life. She will be remembered for her generosity, cooking skills and fun-loving nature. When her name was called, she answered and peacefully departed on February 25, 2021.
