Ethilene Pigue Spencer passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019. She was the youngest of nine children, born on August 15, 1927 to the late Lela and Curtis Pigue in Milan, Tennessee. All of her siblings have preceded her in death.
Her family moved to the Detroit, Michigan area in 1945. Ethilene graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1948. She continued her education at Cleary College studying Business Administration and the Henry Ford Community College Nursing program, which she unfortunately had to discontinue because of an accident.
She married Robert Spencer and to this union were born two beautiful children - Gail Marie and Robert Lee. After her divorce she moved to Inkster, Michigan in 1957 where she lived until her death.
Ethilene received Christ at an early age and joined Willow Run Baptist Church under Reverend James Hammons. In 1988 she joined the Middlebelt Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend C.M. Martin.
She was employed as a Medical Secretary by The University of Michigan and Annapolis (now Oakwood) Hospitals for over 29 years.
Ethilene was a woman of many interests. She was a member of the Eastern Stars and the Inkster Good Fellows for 35 years. She also worked with the Inkster Foster Grandparents program for 12 years until her death.
She was also a woman of many talents-She loved to cook and served as the Director of the Kitchen Ministry at Middlebelt Baptist for 13 years. She also often held cook-outs at her home, especially for her birthday each year, where she enjoyed hosting over 75 people and cooking everything herself. Ethilene was a loving person, who enjoyed helping people, especially children and without question she loved her family and God.
Ethilene was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Gail (Jonathan) Minor of Ypsilanti, Michigan and grandson, Johnnie Sims, Jr. She is survived by her son, Robert (Gwendolyn) Spencer of Lumberton, New Jersey and step-son John (Claretha) Spencer of Westland, Michigan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Milea Minor McGowan, Onani Spencer Carey, John Spencer, Jr., Stefan and Iman Minor and Langston, Maximilian, Tannis and Yanick Spencer. Ethilene also leaves behind 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous other loving nieces, nephews and friends.
