Dorothy Viel Obituary

Dorothy Viel was born on January 8, 1942 in Clarkdale, Arkansas to the union of Tommie Sr. and Lula Mae Hister. She was preceded in death by her first husband Clifford Parris, second husband Johnnie Viel, parents, sisters Essie B. Triplett, and two brothers Tommie Jr and Gregory Hister.

Dorothy graduated from Inkster High School in 1959 and worked as a dietary cook at Advance Nursing Home from which she retired.

She accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, taught children's Sunday School, belonged to the Mother's Ministry and attended Sage faithfully every Tuesday.

Dorothy was a matriarch of her family and has been the caregiver for her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins while their parents worked. She began taking care of children at a very young age of nine. She loved and cherished her family. Her lively spirit and Dorothy-isms will be remembered, honored and held dearly.

She departed from this life on November 13, 2017 at Four Seasons Nursing Home after a fierce battle with many illnesses.

Se leaved to cherish her memories: three sons; Michael Hister and Ryan Parris of Inkster, MI and Clifford Parris of Boston, MA, two daughters; Venetia McDaniel of Laurel, MD, and Kathy Parris of Westland, MI, a special step son; Keith Parris of Grand Rapids, MI. thirteen grandchildren; Shamika Detvey, Ebony and Ivory Hister, Kenneth and Kendria McDaniel, Briona and Kiara Steward, Genesis Parris, Deandre Harell, Ryan Jr., Marquise Jala and Justin Parris, four brothers; Genemar Hister (Laverne) of Westland, MI, Eugene Hister (Aekyong) of Graham, Washington, Armor Hister of Inkster, MI, Steve Hister (Jackie) of Detroit, MI, four sisters; Ruthie Hister of Inkster, MI, Wilmer Wimberly (Theodore) of Ann Arbor, MI, Annie Hister of Westland, MI, and Vivian Milan (Donald) of Belleville, MI, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
