Callie Toles Obituary

Callie Toles affectionately known as Dollie was born to Richard (Sr.) and Hattie Wicker on July 10, 1927 I Detroit, Michigan. Dollie was the third oldest of nine children; Freddie, MIldred, George, Frank, Essie, Benny, Bobby , and Richard preceded her in death.

Dollie graduated from Northwestern High School in 1946. She later became a Nurse's Aide for Detroit Children's Hospital.

Dollie met her husband, Samuel Toles, who was introduced by her brother Freddy through his service in the United States Navy, towards the end of World War II.

Dollis and Sam joined in the union of marriage on August 28, 1948. They were married 56 years and resided in Inkster until Sam's passing on June 9, 2005. God blessed them with five children, Cynthia Diane (David) Hoff, Phyllis Anita (Michael) Conner, Dennis Edward (Jan) Toles, Wendell Jerome (Countess) Toles, and Carla Dionne (Michael) McKinney. Dollie had five grandchildren, Sterling, Janelle (Luke) Fedlam, Michelle Hoff, Mycah Conner and Michaela McKinney, in addition to three great-grandchildren, Luke Allen Fedlam Jr. preceded her death, Allen James, and Simone Elise Fedlam.

Dollie and Sam encouraged all of their children to pursue higher education, which this desire carried over to their grandchildren.

Dollie was committed to serving her community and most importantly dedicated to the works of the Lord. She was a committed Sunday school teacher for over 10 years as well as an active member of Women's Missionary Society at Amity Baptist Church in Inkster. Dollie's pure joy was demonstrated through being a devoted full-time house wife and raising her children with Christian and moral values. Also Dollie's nurturing ability was shared outside of the home shown through her volunteer roles as lunch room monitor at Mokersky Elementary School Counselor Assistant for Allen Junior High School. She never missed an opportunity to fulfill her civic duty by exercising her right to vote and was excited to complete her absentee ballots early.

Dollie Toles went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, march 9, 2019. Dollie's bright smile as well as joyous laugh and countless conversations on current events always amaze those that met her. Her presence, her encouraging spirit, and her love will be greatly missed. She leaves to cherish her memory in addition to the immediate family a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and dedicated nursing staff as well as devoted spiritual daughter and caregiver Darlene Thomas Oliver.
