Alma Merline (Tang) McMillian-Hawkins, 77 years young of Inkster, MI fell asleep in death on February 20, 2021 at home with her loved ones by her side. Alma was born in Newton, Mississippi to the union of Mitchell and Mamie Chapman on June 9, 1943. She grew up with four brothers and nine sisters in Mississippi, where she married her first husband, Alex McMillian. They moved north and raised their family in Inkster, Michigan where the family business of Alma and Son's Welding was born.
Alma proudly graduated from Inkster High School in 1981 where she worked at AAR. She next became a Certified Welder at the same company. After 41 years of marriage to Alex; five years later she married Earl Stanley Hawkins who also worked at AAR as a Welding Specialist. Alma retired after 33 years but always enjoyed working in her vegetable garden growing beautiful flowers both outside and inside of her home. She is very creative and crafty. Her home is filled with her canned veggies and sentimental trinkets she made. She is known for her generosity and loved by all who knew her. She was affectionately known as "Madea". If she gave you a card in recent years, it probably contained the scripture "Love bears all things".
Alma is survived by her husband, Stanley of 16 years. Her children, Glenda, Linda, Alexander and stepson, Edward, sisters, one brother, lots of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and their families. She is preceded in death by her son, Ray in addition to some of her siblings and her parents. Madea, we will all cherish each precious moment spent with you!
