Alfonso Aaron Obituary

To meet Alfonso Aaron was to meet a friend. A conversation in passing could easily turn into an invitation for fishing out on his boat or a fourth for a game on the back nine. And you never knew quite what it was that drew you into this fascinating and handsome gentlemen...at once young and energetic like the rhythm of his stride yet bearing the hallmarks of a classic man...right down to his pleats and high shined shoes.

But he was much more than a friendly face. The youngest son of William Sr. (D) and Lucille Aaron was a good man. He was born in his family home in Mobile, Al; November 1945. Alfonso was a spirited youth and often times the unwitting center of attention. "Fonz", as he was known then, was a cool cat indeed, tall, lean and charming. While his antics were legendary, there was no greater champion for his family and loved ones. He was a fiercely loyal young man with a kind spirit and a heart for fairness. A standout student athlete, he enjoyed enviable popularity and success at Detroit's Central High School when the family moved north. He would go on to parlay his natural athletic talent into opportunity when he joined the baseball team at Florida A&M University. His experiences in Tallahassee helped shaped the rest of his days forging a lifelong appreciation for youth mentoring and education, student athlete success, and several friendships that would endure for decades to come.

Al would return to Michigan to care for his young daughters and lay the foundation for his future. He learned about entrepreneurship and the power of family under the guidance of his parents at their group of successful Aaron's Seafood Restaurants. He loved fishing as a hobby and reveled in all he'd learned at his parent's side. Al would eventually become an employee of Ford Motor Company and proudly serve as a member of the United Auto Workers union for many years.

He took any opportunity to remain engaged with his community serving as coach and mentor for several youth baseball and basketball leagues. It was during his service to an Inkster community organization that he met the woman with whom he'd spend the rest of his life, Charlene. The couple married in 1982, and with five children between them, went about the unusual task of remixing and already blended family. For Al, this meant instilling enough family values in his children that they would not only grow to know each other, but to love each other; beyond time, beyond obstacle, beyond blood. This was his greatest desire in life and his proudest achievement. Make no mistake, Alfonso's enduring legacy is his children and grandchildren.

Our beloved Alfonso was called home on Thursday, July 19. He is survived by his mother, Lucille, and his wife, Charlene. He leaves a brother, William Jr. (Estelle), sister Barbara (James), and sister Delores. Five children; Celeste (Wendell), DeAndre (LaToya), Celia (Roger), Samantha, and Melissa. and ten grandchildren; Corey, Alexis, Nia, Joshua, DeAndre II, Camryn, Elijah, Ryan, Nevaeh, and Aubrey. Al also was blessed to have a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, neighbors, golf buddies, and loved ones. He was a dedicated friend and mentor, a loving husband, devoted son and brother, supportive uncle, and indisputably the best Daddy and Papa there ever was.
