Legacy of Pastor Joan "Bonnie" Bell
Evangelist Joan "Bonnie" Bell started her advent in life on April 16, 1947. She was the oldest of 12 children and was filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 10. Bonnie graduated from Romulus High School and received her nursing license from Henry Ford Community College in 1966. She also attended Eastern Michigan and Wayne State Universities for further education. Evangelist Bell was called to the ministry in 1973, and sat under the leadership of District Elder Henderson Alston at Bethany Apostolic Faith Church in Romulus Michigan.
Over the years she has served as the Vice President of the Michigan State Young People's Union (1980-1982), local church youth chairperson, Missionary chairperson, Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Interim and Associate Pastor.
Bonnie preached a "Back- To-School" revival in September of 1981 at the Garden of Prayer Apostolic Faith Church, where District Eder Andrew Cross was the pastor in San Diego California and fell in love with San Diego and moved there in October of 1983.
After the passing of District Elder Cross in November of 1984, Evang. Bell along with his son Elder Stephen Cross and Elder Harvey Flake served as interim pastors of the Garden of Prayer. The position was held until March 1986 when the new pastor Elder Hall was installed.
While visiting Michigan in 1990, Bonnie was diagnosed with bilateral retinopathy as a result of diabetes. The enemy told her, "don't preach anymore until your sight returns." Her response was, "having therefore obtained help from God I continue until this day."
Returning to Califomia in 1992 she sat under the leadership of District Elder John Givens. Due to circumstances beyond her control, ''yet divinely orchestrated", she returned to Michigan in 2000. Bonnie was an associate pastor at God's City of Refuge of the Apostolic Faith, formally Bethany Apostolic Faith Church in Romulus, Michigan where Bishop Reginald L. Williams, Sr. was her pastor.
