Brigitte Johnson Obituary

Deacon Brigitte Denise Johnson, affectionately known as "Pearl", was born April 24, 1960 in Wayne, Michigan. Her parents, James Lexa Johnson and Savilla Johnson preceded her in death. At an early age Brigitte had the Spirit of God in her heart as she showed love to everyone she met. She encouraged, taught and shared with her family, peers and anyone in need of her assistance. This included many of her residents within the Romulus Community.

Brigitte was educated in the Romulus Community School District, and graduated with honors, in 1978 from the Romulus Senior High School. She excelled in computer technology and computer software courses. She increased her knowledge by taking business courses and applying this information to many other Romulus High School activities; often winning awards for her participation and dedication to that service. She enjoyed sports, and was active in cheerleading. Brigitte continued her education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1982.

Brigitte had a strong work ethic, and this was also evident in her faithfulness in serving, and doing the work of the Lord. She worked for both the Highland Park and Detroit Public Schools as an educator. Brigitte also worked for New Horizon Computer Training as a computer software specialist, which allowed her to travel throughout the US teaching and training staff at various businesses and corporations. She also worked for the Spencer Haywood Foundation and for the New Center Learning Lab under the direction of Dr. Kevin Johnson. Brigitte spent most of her life teaching, encouraging, serving, helping those in need, ministering and sharing the Word of God.

Brigitte joined the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in May 1988 and was ordained as a Deacon in 2001. Deacon Brigitte was involved in many educational and ministerial organizations where she received numerous awards and accolades. Her services at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church included; teacher of New Member Orientation Class, leader of Christian Education, Sunday School Teacher, and founder of the Women's Bible Study Class. Deacon Brigitte also served as the New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church Clerk. She was committed to studying, teaching, and sharing God's Word with everyone. She served as the Education Instructor of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Computer Lab/Learning Center. Deacon Brigitte attended numerous Women's Christian Conferences as well as the Baptist Missionary and Education Convention (BME). Her love and compassion for helping people was strong. She was a humble and faithful servant for the Lord.

Deacon Brigitte was a strong advocate in the fight against breast cancer. She and many of her New Prospect Church family participated in the Detroit Race for the Cure walks to support research awareness in the community and the cure for breast cancer. She participated and encouraged others in the breast cancer support groups and programs.

Deacon Brigitte loved spending time with her family, her New Prospect family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, spending time up North, movies and watching the Bernie Mac Show and Sanford and Son for fun. She loved trying and cooking new foods and dishes, often having others try new foods with her. Although Brigitte did not have children of her own, she often said that Marwin, Beatrice (Skylin and Shawn) and Brieanna were her children. She loved her family and touched many lives. She will truly be missed by her family and all that knew her.

Deacon Brigitte departed this life on Saturday, June 16, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory; brother; Jeffery Petty (Sharon) Jeffery, Jermaine and Jarrahkan of Detroit; sister, Gail Renee Musing (Ron), (Daniel preceded in death) of Huntville, Alabama; sister Lis Johnson of Romulus, God Son, Wayne "Andre" Barlow, of Romulus; and a host of aunts, uncles, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
