Alberta Claypool Obituary

Alberta Claypool "Berta" was born on January 15, 193 being the second child to the late Louis and Earlean Burrell in Rion, South Carolina.

While her father Louis was drafted into the United States Army her mother bravely uprooted them to Detroit, Michigan when she was five years old. She later became a big sister to cousins Tommy and Brice Whittaker. She received her education through the Detroit Public School System graduating from Northern High School in 1952.

She met and married William Perry and to this union her first son Norman A. Perry was born. She later met and married William R. Claypool Sr. and to this union came six children.

She decided while working at Oakwood Hospital, that she would take life's challenge and apply for a job at Ford Motor Company in 1967, retiring after 28 years of service.

As a child she would faithfully attend services and prayer sessions that her grandfather would host. She dedicated her life to the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior in her younger years.

We would faithfully attend church service at The Lutheran Church of our Savior introducing her children to Jesus Christ at an early age by having them attend Catechism. In 1982 she decided to change her religion over to the Southern Baptist Covenant when joining Middlebelt Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. C.E. Martin and Pastor Roscoe Belton. She served graciously on the Hostess Committee and Flower Committee. The Senior Saints and Vice President of the Usher Board until her health started to decline. She was affectionately known as one of the Golden Girls at the church with friends Elma, Velma, and (Gloria who preceded them in death). She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, po-keno, listening to Jazz, and crossword puzzles.

Her parents Louis and Earlean Burrell, brothers; George Moore and Tommy Whittaker, granddaughter Keshia M. Penny preceded her in death.

Alberta is lovingly remembered by her children Norman (Geneva) Perry of Pasadena, Ca, Alva Claypool, Juanita Penny, Stepson Andre Claypool of Inkster, MI., Williams (Lorna) Claypool of Novi, MI, Clara Claypool and Patricia Buckley of Southfield, MI.
